Minnesota, with its snowy landscapes and cozy vibes, offers a picturesque backdrop for a winter wedding, blending romance with the serene beauty of the season. I’m a wedding photographer based in Bemidji, and I’m thrilled to share tips and inspiration to help you plan a winter wedding in Minnesota!
So, grab your favorite warm beverage, and let’s dive into it together!
Winter in Minnesota is a WONDERLAND, so why not bring a touch of that magic into your wedding decor? Think icy blues, crisp whites, silvers, dark greens, and burgundies for a Christmas vibe if you’d like! Fairy lights and candles would also make the space so cozy and dreamy!
Finding the perfect venue is important for any wedding day. Your wedding venue sets the tone for your day and will become the vibe of your wedding photos! During the wintertime, I recommend avoiding commuting if possible since you never know with the snow – that could cause unnecessary delays and stress!
So try to choose venues that have lovely indoor spaces for your celebration and your ceremony as well. Below are some of my recommendations!
Bluebelle Event Venue is my favorite wedding venue in Bemidji, MN! It is fantastic for summer and winter weddings alike since it offers beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces for your big day. Their indoor ceremony room is an excellent backup for any unpredictable weather conditions, and the venue is also heated to keep you and your guests warm and toasty!
Ryne and Austin had a beautiful winter wedding at Bluebelle Event Venue, check out the blog for inspo!
Located in Brainerd, MN, Northern Pacific Center is another stunning venue option for your winter wedding in Minnesota. It has multiple temperature-controlled venue spaces for your big day for your ceremony and reception. And the rustic walls and historic rooms will be a GORGEOUS backdrop for all your wedding photos!
Take a look at Ellen and Nathan’s winter wedding at Northern Pacific Center for inspiration!
Pier B is a wonderful wedding venue in Duluth, MN, offering a jaw-dropping waterfront view! The venue also provides indoor ceremony and reception space for your winter weddings, and you can also book rooms for your guests, so they won’t need to drive anywhere if the weather conditions are unsafe!
If you’re planning a winter wedding in Minnesota, check in with your vendors! Ensure everyone is prepared for the weather conditions and any transportation challenges! Discuss all possible scenarios with your vendors to ensure your day goes as smoothly as possible.
Communication is KEY! Plan ahead so you can stay stress-free on the day!
Minnesota winters can be a bit, well, CHILLY! So dress accordingly! Consider a long-sleeved wedding dress, elegant layers, and a faux fur shawl. This goes for your wedding guests and wedding party, too. You can be warm and still look absolutely FAB for your winter wedding photos!
As for your shoes, consider wearing boots or flats because icy pathways and heels are not a good combo!
Prepare snuggly blankets, maybe some sweet, wintery wedding favors like personalized snow globes or hot cocoa kits! It’s all about creating that cozy, inviting atmosphere that makes a winter wedding in Minnesota EXTRA special!
The golden hour is earlier in the winter, so we have to work a little extra to make the most out of that gorgeous, natural light! Work with your photographer (me, WINK WINK) and create your wedding timeline accordingly.
And definitely remember to bring your coats to stay warm between the shots!
I hope that this blog helps you plan the perfect winter wedding in Minnesota!
