Ask Your Venues for Vendor Recommendations

Usually couples find their wedding venue first, and only then start searching for their wedding vendors (and that’s okay, because many vendors require to know the date and venue before signing you on!)

Many venues have a list of preferred vendors, from florists to DJs, who are familiar with the space, which is always helpful to check out. A vendor who knows your venue well can save time and make the process less stressful for you. If the vendors haven’t been at your venue yet, it shouldn’t be a deal breaker, though, as oftentimes they can bring a fresh perspective and create something really unique for you!

P.S. If the preferred vendors of the venue do not fit your budget or your vibe, you should still be able to bring in your own in most cases.

Always, and I mean ALWAYS, check out a vendor’s past work. Photographers should show off their wedding albums, caterers should let you taste their dishes and cakes, and wedding planners should be able to showcase their portfolios. This step is CRUCIAL to ensuring their style aligns with your vision!

First Impressions Matter

Trust your gut! First impressions can tell you a lot about how professional, responsive, and enthusiastic a vendor is. If something feels off, it might be worth reconsidering.

Consider Your Budget and Vision

Yes, weddings can be pricey, but choosing vendors based solely on cost? Not the best move!

I always recommend setting a budget first before making any other decisions and then prioritizing what matters most to you! Is it the best catering? A good DJ? Having amazing photos that help you tell your love story for decades to come? (I know which one should defo a priority here wink wink)

Also, some vendors may be able to offer cost-effective alternatives that still align with your dream wedding vision. For example, using in-season flowers for your decor or in-season fruits and veggies for your menus.

Remember, prioritize spending according to what’s most important to YOU!

Contracts Are Key!

This one’s HUGE! Always read the contracts thoroughly to avoid any unwanted surprises, such as any hidden costs, what happens if you have to reschedule your date, etc. And yes, make sure there IS a contract in the first place. Contracts are your safety net!

It’s YOUR Wedding and YOUR Decision!

While recommendations are great, the final decision is YOURS. If a suggested vendor doesn’t fit your budget or vision, it’s totally okay to say no.
