I am still dreaming about these engagement photos at the Minnesota State Capitol. When Caedyn shared her Pinterest board with me, the vision was crystal clear immediately. Architecture. Romance. Editorial. The kind of images that feel like they could live in a magazine but also somehow feel deeply, completely them. She was drawn to grand backdrops, dramatic light, and that effortlessly romantic energy that just makes you stop scrolling. So finding a location that could actually deliver all of that was my number one priority.
And then it hit me… the Minnesota State Capitol! And after this session, I am fully, completely obsessed and already plotting how to get back as soon as possible.

When you come here, you get soaring marble columns, grand winding staircases, ornate ironwork railings, arched hallways that seem to go on forever, and those tall, gorgeous windows that pour the most dreamy light across everything. Every single corner of that building is a backdrop. Like, I could have stayed for twelve hours and still found new spots I was dying to shoot in.
For a couple like Caedyn and Josh, who are genuinely just so warm and natural in front of the camera, it was the perfect match. The grandeur of the space made the romance feel even bigger somehow. There’s something about being tiny in the middle of all that architecture that just makes love look really, really beautiful.

We wandered through the Capitol, climbing staircase after staircase, ducking into corridors bathed in golden lamplight, and stealing moments on balconies overlooking the grand rotunda below. The mix of warm artificial light in the deeper hallways and the bright natural light streaming through those tall windows gave us the most gorgeous variety — moody and cinematic one frame, soft and airy the next.
I loved how they laughed on the steps, slow danced in the rotunda, and were sneaking kisses. They were effortless and so, so fun to be around. That’s the thing about doing your engagement session before the wedding! By the time your wedding day comes, working together just feels natural and easy, and that energy shows up in every single photo.
